When will Cenestin be available??
Duramed Pharmaceuticals announced on July 20,
1999, their product Cenestin (Synthetic Conjugate Estrogens ) is now available in
the United States for the treatment of hot flashes, night sweats, and other moderate to
severe vasomotor symptoms that come with perimenopause
and menopause.
Cenestin offers women seeking relief from their
symptoms
Cenestin, a slow-release conjugated ( made up of different kinds of estrogen)
estrogen product made 100 percent from soy and yam
plants, is the second kind of conjugated estrogen ( the first is Premarin).
Until FDA approval of Cenestin this past spring, Premarin was the only available
conjugated estrogen.
Cenestin is indicated for the treatment of
vasomotor symptoms
(such as hot flashes and night sweats) associated with perimenopause and
menopause. As is true with any prescription medication, some women may experience side
effects when taking Cenestin. In the Cenestin clinical trial the most frequently reported
adverse effect were headache and insomnia which occurred with similar frequency in the
placebo group. Pregnant women should not take hormone replacement therapy, including
Cenestin, as it may harm their baby. Women should discuss personal or family history of
breast cancer, breast lumps, abnormal vaginal bleeding and abnormal blood clotting with a
health care professional.
Warning:
As is true with taking any form of estrogen, Cenestin included, women with an
intact uterus should always be taking a form of progesterone with their estrogen to
protect their uterine lining.
