Estrace, made by Mead
Johnson, is another form of estrogen; it's considered a "natural"
estrogen. This means its active estrogen component estradiol, is
"naturally occurring" and is the same as the estrogen our ovaries make before
menopause. The estradiol in Estrace comes from plants. It's
"broken up" or micronized to make absorption easier. When this estrogen
enters our stomachs it is metabolized or broken down in our liver and converted to
estrone. It's this estrogen that circulates in our bodies. Estrone is
considered a pure estrogen.Indications (for what it is used) Estrace provides women all the benefits of hormone replacement therapy. In addition to alleviating such perimenopausal/menopausal symptoms as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, heart pounding etc... It works to prevent bone loss and to protect our hearts. Women, with an intact uterus, must also take some form of progesterone along with any estrogen product, including Estrace. Dosage: Estrace can be prescribed in pill form in the following doses: 0.5 milligrams, 1 milligram, and 2 milligram. Its also available in cream form: 1 gram contains 0.2 milligrams of estradiol.
