Getting started with "The
Menopause Diet"
 In our
discussion groups, many people want to know the "secret" of "The Menopause
Diet." Dr. Gillespie understands, and she explains, in her book, why women gain
weight during perimenopause and menopause. The "secret" is that women are
different than men in how we use the food we eat. Here's a little more information how to

Thank you, Dr Gillespie for taking the time to come here and speak with our
members.
Millions of women in perimenopause and menopause ask themselves in frustration, "Why
am I gaining weight when I'm still eating the same amounts of food and continue my
exercise program?"
Women in perimenopause/menopause are
struggling with their weight despite working out and watching what they eat. In fits of
exasperation and frustration they turn to quick fixes and wind up gaining the weight they
lost back, plus more!
 Dr.
Larrain Gillespie faced this same question when she hit forty. As a successful
urologist, who was the only woman to gradate from the prestigious Los Angeles School of
Medicine's urology program, she was shocked to discover that not only was she gaining
weight but she was ALWAYS hungry. She found herself eating large quantities of
carbohydrates like bread, pasta and rice.
Dr. Gillespie, determined to find the underlying cause of her new found appetite, embarked
on an ambitious journey. She wanted to know what caused this change in her
body's metabolism and how this change affected her health.
To her amazement she discovered an intricate balance between estrogen, progesterone and
the rest of the body's sophisticated systems, including the digestive system. Not
only did she find that women in perimenopause and menopause become more sensitive to
carbohydrates like bread and pasta, but women store these carbohydrates as fat where men
burn off the same carbohydrates as fuel for the day. In effect a woman's body works
against her in the battle of the bulge!
Changing careers in 1995, Dr. Gillespie focused on the issues of women's health as they
relate to diet. Her interest in cooking and nutrition, nourished by courses at London's
Cordon Bleu and La Varenne in Paris, has resulted in her current books, The Menopause Diet
and The Menopause Diet Mini Meal Cookbook
.
I had the tremendous opportunity to interview Dr. Gillespie and read both of her books The
Menopause Diet and The Menopause Mini Meal Cookbook. These books work hand in
hand for any woman in her forties who is trying to lose weight and feel great. Dr.
Gillespie recipe's are delicious and easy to prepare. Her book The Menopause Diet is
excellent and educates us to how our body actually works against us during
perimenopause/menopause.
Thank you Dr. Gillespie for today's interview. I found your book The Menopause Diet
incredibly stimulating; I have never read anything like it before. I'm impressed with the
amount and quality of science that you bring to your book. It makes a lot of sense.

as we enter perimenopause and menopause do we become somewhat carbohydrate
