Endometriosis
& HRT Question:I am 38 and have been diagnosed with severe endometriosis. I had laser surgery 5 years ago and am considering a hysterectomy. My question is this: In your opinion is taking oral or transdermal progesterone effective in inhibiting growth of endometriosis in anyway? Since endometriosis is fueled by estrogen, some feel that progesterone could counterbalance this overabundance of estrogen. What do you think? Dr. Goldstein:Answer: Progesterone is a 3rd place choice for control of endometriosis that I reserve for women who can not, will not or should not use Lupron or birth control pills. Hysterectomy
