Mike Collins: She join us this morning with Sue Spataro who is a registered nurse
living through the change and also has a website devoted to this purpose. Sue: Yes, I do have a website devoted to it and also have an online support group for women going through
menopause and perimenopause called HotFlash.Mike Collins: Dr Teaff, what lead you to write this book and why in 1999, if it has been recognized by the medical community for 20 to 30 years, why now? ![]() Dr.
Teaff: Well, I wrote the book several years
ago and I actually we are working on the second edition because there are so many things
happening in this area. In about the early 90s, there started to be a interest as
the baby boomers, the forefront of change in our society,. As these women started to
approach this time in their lives, they wanted to know more. Just like they wanted to know
about sex, birth control and child birth, this is the next big thing. Then you saw Gail Sheehy with her
book, "The Silent Passage", which was a New York Times Bestseller
because it was a hot topic. I liked that book a lot. I though it really began the
education of women. I am a little more proactive than that. I dont like the kind of
"Oh, darn, Im menopausal" approach to life. I really want people to
understand that what is going to happen and how you are going to prepare an make yourself
get through menopause healthier and happier. |
