Ross Interviews & Crafts Library This
week's Craft of the Week is brought to you by our good friend and craft guru Kathy Ross, author of kids' craft and activity
books. Her craft this week, Handprint Magnets comes from her book called Crafts
to Make in the Fall.
This craft requires very little supplies, is perfect for the
individual child, or a group setting. These magnets make wonderful homemade presents
and are sure to liven up any refrigerator!
What
you Need:

- Poster Board
- Scissors
- Sticky backed magnet
- Poster paint and a paint brush
- Black permanent marker
What you do:
- Paint your right hand with poster paint and make a handprint
on the poster board. Do the same thing with your left hand. Let the prints
dry.
- Cut around the outside of both handprints.
- Write the possessive form of your name on one hand and
something like "work" or "masterpiece" on the other hand.
- Put a piece of sticky-backed magnet on the back of each
hand.
- Put these handprints on your refrigerator to hold up your
school and art work for all to appreciate.
Pumpkin Seed Flower
 This craft is brought
to you by Irene Hayes. She is the mother, works part time and has been co-chair of her
kids' school council the past 2 years and is president of the P.T.O. Irene's children love
to do crafts, so she has cupboards and cupboards in the basement filled with anything and
everything that you can make a craft with. This is an excellent craft for all ages
especially for our preschoolers. The seeds can be used to help with both counting and
spatial skills (placing the seeds in the circle).
Sit-A-Pon
a gift for the gardening mom
The Sit-A-Pon is created by using very simple household materials; old plastic
tablecloth, magazines, and yarn. I first made a Sit-A-Pon when I was a Girl Scout. I
still remember that pink and white soft square that protected my knees while gardening as
a small girl. The Sit-A-Pon can be personalized just for your mom. You can use water
proof magic markers to write her name and her favorite colored yarn to sew the edging.

soul. In this interview, she talks about how to get started with aromatherapy and its
healing properties. She even has included a FREE aromatherapy recipe to get you started.
Heart Magnets
These are terrific for the
fridge and a welcomed gift for any age. They can also be made into fashionable pins
. Attach pin backings to the heart instead of magnets. The craft
"dough" will keep unrefrigerated for up to 2 weeks when stored with a small
piece of damp sponge in a plastic bag or sealed container. This fun craft can be
done with children of any age starting from 4 years old and up. |
