find out more about SueSue:
Kathy Ross, the hugely popular crafter and author of many terrific craft books, Crafts to Make in the Spring, The Best Birthday Parties Ever, Christmas Crafts has written a new book called and Crafts from Your Favorite Bible Stories.

Crafts from your favorite Bible Stories is full of wonderful projects that every child can do as they learn more about the Bible.  This book is ideal for every family and Bible classes.

ross.jpg (10225 bytes)Kathy Ross has many years of experience working with and training children in preschool and Sunday school. She has found, through her teaching, the best way for children to really know the Bible is to provide hand-on experiences of making and using props related to Bible stories.  This has been an invaluable tool in helping children remember the stories as well as their underlying message.

The crafts are beautiful; simple to make. Children will love to make Noah's Ark, Part the Red Seas and Grow hair on Samson.

Just talking with Kathy is an inspiration and I hope you will enjoy my
interview with her : )

I just received your Crafts from your favorite Bible Stories- it's  absolutely lovely : ).   It's great to talk with you about this book.

The Bible crafts in your book Crafts from your favorite Bible Stories  are wonderful, I especially like the one for Noah's Ark.  How did you  develop these simple yet beautiful crafts?

ross.jpg (10225 bytes)Kathy:
I'm so glad you like this book because I was very happy with it myself. This is a series I have wanted to do for some time and I am thrilled to finally see it coming out.

The next book in the series, Christian Value Crafts, will be on the fall list.

I'm afraid my craft developing system is a bit chaotic.
I make notes for making crafts "in theory" very early in the morning.
rosscreationwheel.jpg (17719 bytes)There is never a craft in my books that has not been made by me first. That is the model the illustrator will use. Then the mess really starts! I work in my kitchen trying out several ideas at once and I have my share of rejects, I'm afraid.

Projects that were a good idea on paper and just did not work.
I made seven different crafts for "the sunrise" last week. It can really slow me down trying to get one concept in "crafty form". Other days, I feel like I can't do anything wrong. The day will just slip away with successful projects. I am always hopeful that my family won't find any glitter in their dinner that night.

Why do you believe using crafting is an effective way of helping  children learn about the Bible?

Kathy:
Crafting is a wonderful way to involve children in the stories from the Bible.

rosslambhand.jpg (11476 bytes)It helps them to focus more on the events of the story and to understand them. I am a great believer in the benefits of "doing" to supplement the more passive experience of listening.

I, personally, have always had a much longer attention span for things that I was directly involved in, not only mentally, but in a hands-on way. I think it is definitely an added benefit that at the end of the project you have something that continues to remind you of the story and keeps you thinking about it.

This book is dedicated to all the children in my home church, who are a source of great love and joy to the entire congregation. Kathy Ross

"Just love this site"
From: Janet O'connor
Don't know how I stumbled across your site but I LOVE it!!! I am an art teacher for grades 1 thru 8 in a Catholic elementary school in NY. I have volumes of projects printed from your site that I intend to use for this upcoming school year. Keep up the good work.

Angel Ornaments or Pins
This craft is a wonderful project to do with children ages 6 and older. It is simple and looks great! The supplies are easy to find in any craft store. These pins/ornaments would make a welcomed gift. Happy Holidays!
