click here to learn more about this videoThere I was, standing in a long movie line waiting for the new Dream Works flick Antz. Great, I thought, another boring insect movie I have to watch for two hours. When the movie began, I became so engrossed with the characters and it’s visual splendor that I didn’t even realize that an hour had already passed.

Well now I’m delighted to say that Dream Works has made an excellent insect motion picture. The story begins with a worried little ant simply called Z (voice by Woody Allen). Z is upset because everything he does is for the ant colony. This bothers him because he wonders if this is a fulfilling life, shoveling dirt from place to place.

One day he enters an "ant bar", where he meets a beautiful female ant. She happens to be the queen-to-be in the community. Princess Belia (voice by Sharon Stone) is not allowed to visit this bar, but disobeyed her mother’s orders. She wants to have some fun before she has to heed her queenly duties; which are the boring tasks of having babies every two minutes.

Z, unknowingly meeting with a princess, falls in love with Belia. When Z finds out that she is the queen-to-be, he confides in his army ant friend (voice talent by Sylvester Stalone) about how he wants to meet her again. The army ant is to be in a long army procession the next day, where the queen and Princess Belia will look on upon. Z asks him if they could trade paces so he could meet the princess again. The army ant agrees. From then on, Z’s adventure begins. He does enter the procession, but doesn’t find the opportunity to meet the princess again!

I recommend this highly entertaining movie that worker and army ants can enjoy alike.
