suexmas100.jpg (12433 bytes)freshair100x100.jpg (11427 bytes)A Christmas Story, based on the book by Jean Shepard titled ‘In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash’. Coincidentally, the movie’s narrator is the author himself, voicing an adult Ralphie Parker reflecting on a memorable Christmas.

The story stars Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley), a 9 year old boy excited about Christmas. He yearns for the Red Ryder Carbine Action Two-Hundred Shot Lightning Loader Range Model Air Rifle as his Christmas present. But his worry-wart mom (Melinda Dillon) and crabby but endearing dad (Darren McGavin) think it’s a dangerous gift and, it seems, so does every other adult in his world.

Ralphie conjures up different ways to get the gun for Christmas. He leaves Red Ryder print advertisements in his mother’s magazine. He even writes about why he wants it in an assigned theme about " What I Want for Christmas" at school.

After his hilarious failed attempts, he thinks to consult Santa, who of course is the "head honcho".

Not only is this movie about Ralphie’s quest for the Red Ryder gun, but what goes on at his household and school. My favorite moment is when Ralphie imagines his school-teacher falling in love with his theme. The teacher thinks that all the other writings are revolting, and gives them all grade Fs, but gives Ralphie an A+.

A Christmas Story is PG for mild cursing, but should be appropriate for ages 7 and up.

It’s such an entertaining movie that can easily be watched hundreds of times. So, if you want to get into the Christmas spirit, rent (or buy) A Christmas Story, which is sure to keep you laughing throughout this holiday season.

This is a very nice explanation of the meaning behind the candy cane which you can print out. It was sent to us by Dana who says, "I have a story of the candy cane that I hope you like.  I hope  that everyone is enjoys this and passes it along."
